What Makes A Good Game? (Notes)

-Rules of the game define the possible actions of the player
-Rules are unambiguous, intelligible, and apply for all players.
-No game can be played without the interaction of the player
-Outcome has to be uncertain, otherwise it loses appeal.
-Computer games simulate or change properties or processes of the real world.
-Rules and representation of a game are not independant but interact with eachother.
-Players require clarand immediate feedback to understand the relationship between action and outcome.
-Players require a clear goal so tey can perform meaningful actions within the game
-Conflict and competition are essential for the players motivation
-The challenges of a game should match the skills of the player; neither too easy (boring) nor too difficult (frustrating).

UNIT 1 REFLECTION:

1.  On which activities throughout the unit did you do your best work?  Describe your final outcome. Do you feel that it was successful? Why?
2.  Did you enjoy a certain assignment, lesson, or topic more than the others?  Is there  anything you might have done differently?
3.  Can you connect any of the things you learned in this unit to the real world?
4.  Do you feel like you were successful throughout the unit?
5.  What are your aims/goals for unit 2-4?
6.  Is there any media / theme which you are very keen on pursuing (in future units/activities)?
7.  Is there any particular aspect of your work that you would like to improve upon?

1) I think the activities i did my best work on was activity 5 when we were making our assets for a game, I think this is the best ive ever done because i worked on it the hardest out of all the activities. I really liked how everything came out and what i like most is the textures i created with the back round.  I felt succesful on this project because i tried my best with every asset.

2) I really enjoyed making the flappy bird game more than the other activities. What i wouldve liked to do differently is work on it consistently in class instead of getting off track.

3) I connected this unit to the real world by thinking of how companies such as nike and all the other companies have logos of their own and we learned this by being able to make logos of our own so i thought that that activity was fun.

4)I felt that i was succesful in the unit  because i worked ard on it, but at the same time i didnt work as hard as i couldve.

5)My aims and goals for unit 2-4 is to hand my assignments in on time and being focused on my work.

6)In the future i plan on pursuing some themes that deal with medieval times or fantasy genres of that sort because it really interests me and i think it would help me focus more on something that i like and not something im just doing for the sake of doing it.

7) The aspects i would like to improve on in the future is primarily my understanding of coding and what makes the game work and all the techno mumbo jumbo. i feel like if i were to understand these aspects of a game i would be better as i am today.
